Owen O'Connor awarded Honourary Membership

We are delighted to announce that Owen O’Connor has been awarded honorary membership of Raheny Camera Club. Owen was a founding member of the club along with Cheryl Cox, Kieran Cox, Edel Bergin and Stacey Adriaanse. An idea that was first formed in 2014 by a group of scout leaders with a common interest in photography. It was through Owen’s knowledge and generosity that the club came to fruition. All it took was some gentle persuasion from the others and the first invitations were sent out to those who they felt might be interested in joining Raheny’s first camera club. The first official meeting to create the club took place in July 2014 and by September the first 50 members trickled through the doors of Raheny United.

Owen is a great photographer who has openly shared all of his experience with us from landscape to portrait photography. He taught us how to light your subject. When and where to shoot landscapes. Where to print our images. He organised our yearly weekend away to Clifden and Donegal. He brought some of the best photographers in Ireland to the club to inspire us. He was always on hand at our outings to help with settings or tripod set up. And he taught us about aperture, shutter speeds, exposure and depth of field. He was our first chairperson and he along with the others managed to turn an idea into a reality. Owen has been an educator and a mentor to everyone and will always be a treasured friend to us all. We are forever grateful for his contribution to our club and it is a great privilege to award Honorary Membership to such a deserving recipient.
